UNAM will laboratory drugs against cancer , lupus and asthma

It will be in Cuernavaca ; will support development of new biotechnological molecules to facilitate their transition to clinical evaluation and eventual arrival to patients.

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) inaugurated on Wednesday Laboratory analysis of molecules and biotech drugs, space-edge research to fight diseases like cancer, lupus, asthma or multiple sclerosis. In this space the Institute of Biotechnology (IBT) in Cuernavaca, Morelos, the active ingredients of drugs for treating such ailments as well as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, viral infections, osteoporosis, organ rejection, degeneration characterized macular, among others. The highest seat of learning explained that the purpose of the laboratory is to support the development of new biotechnological molecules relevant to our country, to facilitate their transition to the clinical evaluation and its arrival to patients. In March 2015, the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risk (COFEPRIS) enabled the lab, along with three other Mexican academic institutions, and authorized third parties for the characterization of biotech products. In a statement, he said that since then, it has 243 reports delivered to six customers, which presents the characterization of eight different molecules.
He explained that unlike a chemical drug, one biotech is produced using recombinant DNA technology and its characterization is essential to ensure the quality, effectiveness and safety. “Wanted, where possible, their physicochemical and biological correlate with therapeutic efficacy and safety properties. The characterization is also necessary to compare biotech drugs produced by different manufacturing processes or different manufacturers, “he said. At 195 square meters, a laboratory for physico-chemical analysis and one for preclinical testing, where experience and scientific strength of the specialists of the institute is used to provide border services to industrial and academic community in the country was installed. Its infrastructure includes areas of analytical development, stability chambers, molecular biology, microbiology, in vivo tests and preclinical testing; also it house the Unit Flow Cytometry IBt, with a cell separator (cell sorter).
